Facials help alleviate the impurities and bacteria that accumulate on your skin daily which can settle deep within the pores of your skin and cause acne.  Getting facials is a thorough way of cleansing your skin.  Facials focus on cleansing not only the outer layer of your skin, but cleanses deep within the pores of your skin.  Surface level oil and impurities can be cleansed easily, but those hidden deep within your pores, need special attention.  When oil and dirt stay in your pores for prolonged periods of time, acne can result.  Facials can also be very relaxing (with the exception of the extraction process) and a great way to release stress.

A basic facial process may include:

Initial Cleansing - light cleansing to remove impurities on the outermost layer of the skin

Steaming
– opens your pores and allows dirt deep within your pores to come to the surface of the skin to be removed

Extraction
– removes sebum that may be blocking the pores and causing acne, such as pimples, blackheads and whiteheads.  During this process, existing blackheads, whiteheads and pimples are extracted.

Masks – extraction is usually followed by masks.  The masks that follow will depend on the condition of your skin.  The first mask will further clean the pores.  The second mask usually soothes and calms the skin and closes the pores.

Lotion – a lotion and sun block may follow the masks to add moisture removed during the steaming process back to the skin, followed by sun block to protect the skin.

Additional Notes:  There are many different types of facials one can choose from.  “Acne Facials” can be beneficial to those with acne or acne prone skin.  Most aestheticians, however, will be able to determine which type of facial is needed by looking at your skin.
